Description
A bright summer view of the Hotel Woerthersee in Klagenfurt seen from the lake before its renovation work, that will hopefully start in 2024, so that its cultural identity can be preserved.
Built in 1897 by Klagenfurt architect Wilhelm Heß (1847-1916), Hotel Wörthersee is an interesting building that represents the so-called “Wörthersee architecture”. This type of architecture developed in the Land of Carinthia on the Lake Wörthersee and was particularly popular at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Wilhelm Heß designed, among other things, Velden Castle and the Park Hotel in Pörtschach.
In front of the hotel stands the house of the rowing club Albatros, that was founded - under the name Yokohama - in 1880. The beautiful clubhouse was built in 1908/1909 according to the plans of the architect Franz Baumgartner, the most important representant of the Woerthersee-architecture.
